CHARLESTON – Woodstock junior Kayla Beattie practically had high school distance running’s triple crown within her grasp as she approached the finish line in the Class 2A 1,600-meter run.
CHARLESTON – Hampshire’s Cassie Kruse tried not to concern herself with the 25-meter lead that Yorkville’s Ali Hester had heading into the final leg of the Class 2A 4x800-meter relay.
CHARLESTON – Huntley senior Amy Fanella had resigned herself to the fate that, for a second consecutive year, she might not be competing on the final day of the track and field season.
CHARLESTON – Woodstock’s Kayla and Elise Beattie crossed the finish line in the Class 2A 1,600-meter run, high-tenned each other and looked as though they hardly had broken a sweat.

ROCHELLE – Hampshire’s girls track and field team had two top individual finishers Saturday at the IHSA Class 2A Rochelle Sectional.
Marengo’s Joey Moorhouse had several enticing offers from NCAA Division II schools at which he could continue his wrestling career.
ROCKFORD – Harvard’s Emily Scott qualified for state in two events and set a school record in the shot put at the girls track Class 1A Rockford Christian Sectional on Friday.
RICHMOND – Woodstock and Prairie Ridge finished second and third in the IHSA Class 2A Richmond-Burton Sectional on Friday, but neither girls track and field team came away disappointed about not winning it all.
ROCKTON – Cary-Grove senior Kelly McCoy did not feel she had performed at her highest level before Thursday’s IHSA Class 3A Hononegah Track and Field Sectional Meet.
ALGONQUIN – Alison Agnes scored an unassisted goal in the second overtime to give Crystal Lake South’s girls soccer team a 1-0 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win against Jacobs on Monday.
GENOA – Harvard’s Coty Kramer set three meet records and two school records to help the Hornets win the nine-team Genoa-Kingston Invitational on Saturday.
The Alden-Hebron bass fishing team will have more fish tales to tell after this weekend's IHSA State Bass Fishing Tournament at Carlyle Lake.
RICHMOND – Marengo’s softball team clinched sole possession of the Big Northern Conference East Division title with a 10-0 victory against Richmond-Burton, the Indians’ first outright championship since 2004.

CRYSTAL LAKE – Huntley’s Amy Fanella, Cary-Grove’s Kelly McCoy and McHenry’s Alex Friske tried to lighten one of the Fox Valley Conference Girls Track and Field Meet’s tensest moments.
In most years, Woodstock senior Elise Beattie would have two McHenry County Track and Field Meet records.
HUNTLEY – Taylor Larson (13-5) struck out 12 and gave up two hits to earn a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division softball win for Huntley in a 10-0, six-inning victory against Dundee-Crown on Monday.
WILLIAMS BAY, Wis. – Alden-Hebron’s softball team used a pair of strong pitching performances from sisters Hayli and Sparkle Lagerhausen on Saturday to help lead the Giants to a doubleheader sweep against Faith Christian in non-conference action.
WOODSTOCK – If such records were kept, Huntley’s girls track and field team might make an IHSA list for runner-up finishes in big meets.
CRYSTAL LAKE – In a contest with first place on the line, Prairie Ridge’s softball team rode Johanna Turner’s arm to a 7-0 win against Crystal Lake Central in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division play Tuesday.
CARY – Jessica Warnecke won the 300-meter low hurdles in 48.5 seconds Monday to lead Cary-Grove to a first-place finish at its girls track triangular with 92.5 points.
CRYSTAL LAKE – Cary-Grove girls track coach Mark Anderson clutched the championship trophy his team had just won Friday night at the McHenry County Track and Field Meet and congratulated his winning boys counterpart at McHenry, Dave D’Angelo.

RICHMOND – Hampshire’s girls soccer team defeated Round Lake, 4-0, and Richmond-Burton, 2-0, on Saturday to win the Richmond-Burton Tournament championship with a 3-0 record.
WOODSTOCK – Crystal Lake Central’s softball team used a 17-hit attack to defeat Woodstock North, 11-4, on Friday in a Fox Valley Conference Fox Division game.
POPLAR GROVE – Harvard’s Lindsay Melson struck out so many batters Tuesday that her teammates were bragging about the outs they helped her get.
ANTIOCH – Danielle Simons struck out seven and did not give up a run in 62⁄3 innings to lead Marengo to a 2-0 non-conference win against Antioch on Monday.
ROCKFORD – Early in the season, hitters want to get to the plate and swing the bat instead of being patient.
MARENGO – Amber Fillmore scored with 1:35 left in the game to give Marengo a 1-0 non-conference girls soccer victory against Woodstock on Tuesday.
All ya have ta do is look outside to see that spring is here, and with all this great weather leadin’ into this new season our spring sports have begun.
Amy Fanella had a dominant track and field season as a junior last spring at Huntley.
NILES – Elise and Kayla Beattie finished first and second, respectively, Saturday at the 36th annual Pat Savage Cross Country Invitational, leading Woodstock to a second-place finish with 61 points.
