LINCOLNSHIRE – McHenry’s Reilly Shanahan has played in a lot of water polo games in his high school career, but experienced something new at the Illinois Water Polo All-Star game at Stevenson High School on Sunday.
LINCOLNSHIRE – In the first period of its boys water polo IHSA state quarterfinal game against St. Ignatius, McHenry could not get a decent shot off, much less score.
BARRINGTON – Reilly Shanahan’s goal in the final minute lifted second-seeded McHenry to a 9-8 water polo victory against top-seeded Palatine in the IHSA Barrington Sectional championship game Saturday. Shanahan and Drew Schmitt scored three goals apiece for the Warriors, who advanced to the state tournament quarterfinals.
MELROSE PARK – Marian Central’s Gregg Wikierak witnessed a feat Saturday he never had seen in more than three decades as a baseball coach.
BARRINGTON – McHenry’s boys water polo team got through a jittery first half and defeated Schaumburg, 13-8, in the Barrington Sectional semifinal Friday.
BARRINGTON – McHenry never was in any danger Wednesday in its sectional quarterfinal game against Barrington, but the Warriors also never were in total control.
CRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake South coach Brian Bogda told his players to chip away after falling behind, 5-0, in the first inning of Thursday’s FVC crossover against Grayslake Central.
HEBRON – The Alden-Hebron baseball team picked up its first win of the season with a 7-6 Northeastern Athletic Conference victory against Rockford Christian on Tuesday.
MCHENRY – McHenry put together a potent scoring attack in the third quarter and survived the fourth quarter to defeat York, 13-9, in boys water polo Monday.
ST. CHARLES – The McHenry boys water polo team consistently has gotten off to slow starts this season.
HOFFMAN ESTATES – Reilly Shanahan scored six goals to lead the McHenry boys water polo team to a season-opening 8-4 victory against Conant on Monday. Tim Briscoe and Phillip Lesniak also scored for the Warriors, who got three saves from goalie Dan Brucki and one from Alex Birkle.
