Karissa Gonio of Dundee-Crown claimed the last individual qualifying spot for state at the Zion-Benton Girls Bowling Sectional on Saturday at Sunset Lanes in Waukegan.
Gonio, a senior, bowled a six-game series of 1,211, 16 pins ahead of Meghan Mulcahy of Prospect for the last qualifying spot. Gonio was the only local bowler at sectionals to advance to state.
Only the top four teams at each sectional advanced to state. D-C finished in seventh place with 5,494 pins. The Chargers’ Angie Tripp was second on the team with 1,181.
Johnsburg’s Allison Boelter finished 48th with 1,077. Samantha Kunke of Woodstock was 54th with 1,062, and McHenry’s Kim McClaughry finished 59th.
At the Freeport Sectional at 4-Seasons Bowling Center in Freeport, Marengo came within five pins from qualifying for state as a team.
The Indians finished fifth with a final score of 5,625. Dominique Bailey of Marengo fell just 11 pins out of the last state qualifying spot with 1,225.
Jacobs finished in 10th with 5,215. Michelle Morrison led the Golden Eagles with 1,054.
Cary-Grove 57, McHenry 44: At McHenry, Jason Gregoire scored 22 points to lead the Trojans to the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win. Devin McDonough scored 13 points for C-G (15-9 overall, 7-3 FVC Valley) and Nick Franz added 10.
Greg Johnson scored 17 points to lead the Warriors (10-11, 3-6), including four 3-pointers. Cody Freund added 10 points.
Fremd 48, Dundee-Crown 24: At Palatine, Fremd (23-0) stayed undefeated on the season with the nonconference win over the Chargers (6-15).
