Dundee-Crown running back Cody Lane has decided to play his college football at NCAA Division III Aurora University next year.

Lane, who is 5-foot-9 and weighs 195 pounds, missed his senior season after tearing his left ACL in June. He was a Northwest Herald All-Area first-team selection in 2012 when he rushed for 1,181 yards and 18 touchdowns in nine games.

Lane suffered the injury in a camp at Northern Illinois University on June 7 during a one-on-one drill with a linebacker. Lane had a long list of D-III schools interested in him despite missing his senior season. He also was looking at Benedictine, Dubuque, Elmhurst, North Central and Wheaton.

“I liked the coaching staff at Aurora, they really set the tone there,” Lane said. “They’re planning on me coming in and want me to help them build to the next level.”

Lane was cleared for all activities on Dec. 20 and has been lifting weights and running at Going Vertical in Huntley to get ready for college. He feels stronger in the upper body than he was before the injury.

“It’s going to be a great feeling getting back out there on the field, definitely,” Lane said.

D-C safety Sam Franckoviak recently committed to D-III Concordia University-Wisconsin, which plays in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with Aurora. Their teams will play each other in the eighth game of the season.
