The Huntley boys basketball team won the consolation bracket championship Saturday at the Elgin Holiday Tournament with a 67-41 victory over Chicago Englewood.
After losing their opening game of the tourney to Chicago Phillips, the Red Raiders defeated three other Chicago teams – F.W. Parker, Corliss and Englewood – en route to the consolation championship.
Amanze Egekeze scored a game-high 24 points to lead Huntley. Kyle Slonka added 17 points and Jack Bessey had nine.
Woodstock North 53, Antioch 43: At the E.C. Nichols Tournament in Marengo, the Thunder won the ninth-place game. Nikolaus Herscha led North with 16 points and Leonel Ortiz added 12.
McHenry 61, Wheaton South 56: At York’s Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament in Elmhurst, the Warriors improved to 1-2 in the tournament. Cody Freund led McHenry with 23 points and Kyle Postal added 22.
Stillman Valley 41, Harvard 40: At Marengo, the Hornets lost in the 11th-place game of the E.C. Nichols Tournament. Peyton Schneider led Harvard with 15 points and Fernando Carrera added nine.
Zion-Benton JV 83, Alden-Hebron 40: At the Alden-Hebron Christmas Tournament in Hebron, the Giants were led by Trevor Ball with 17 points and Jacob Heaver with 12 in the loss.
Downers Grove South Quad: McHenry went 3-0 with wins over Oswego East, 59-16,, Niles North, 63-6, and Downers Grove South, 53-21. The Warriors (13-2) were led by Derek Neises (132 pounds), Cody Patchett (152), Luis Hernandez (220) and Ryan Grannemann (195), all going 3-0.
Berman Classic: At Palatine, Richmond-Burton finished in a tie for 15th with 80 points. Garrett Sutton (160) finished in first place in his weight class, with a 10-6 decision in the championship bout. Grant Sutton (126) took first with a 7-2 decision in the final. The Rockets also got a third-place finish from Gavin Sutton (113).
MIdstates Tournament: At the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Harvard finished fifth out of 42 teams. Adam Freimund won the 285-pound championship, and Justin Wilcox (106) claimed second. Freimund won the championship match with a 2-0 decision against Brett Samson of Oconomowoc. Wilcox lost his championship match to Nathan Hensley of Greendale in an overtime decision, 11-6. Sergio Esquivel (113) took fourth and Matt Wheeler (160) finished fifth.
Huntley 63, Batavia 55: At the Montini Christmas Tournament in Lombard, the Red Raiders (13-3) claimed seventh place with the win. Sam Andrews and Ali Andrews each scored 23 points. Rachel Zobott added eight.
Resurrection 59, Dundee-Crown 26: At the Charger Christmas Tournament in Carpentersville, the Chargers lost for the third time at the tournament. Lauren Lococo led D-C with five points. D-C will play in the 15th-place game against Buffalo Grove at 9:30 a.m. Monday.
Glenbard North 54, Jacobs 38: At the Wheaton North Classic, the Golden Eagles fell to 1-3 at the tournament with the loss and finished in 14th place. Talia Surges led the Golden Eagles with nine points and Jennifer Barnec added eight.
Alden-Hebron 42, Woodstock JV 38: At the Alden-Hebron Christmas Tournament in Hebron, Brooklyn Hilton scored 19 points to lead the Giants in their victory.
Alden-Hebron 36, St. Benedict 25: Hilton led the Giants again with 12 points.
St. Ignatius 53, McHenry 50: At the Riverside-Broofield Tournament in Riverside, the Warriors (7-10) lost in the semifinals. Gabby Schweitzer, Mckayla Snedeker and Sawyer Lay scored eight points each for McHenry.
Riverside-Brookfield 55, McHenry 41: At Riverside, the Warriors lost in the third-place game. Greta Taylor and Abby Ross each scored seven points to lead McHenry. Lay and Alex Martens were all-tournament selections.
