Roundup: Koscielniak paces Marian Central

WOODSTOCK – Ellen Koscielniak had a big game for the Marian Central girls basketball team.

The senior scored a game-high 17 points in a 62-52 win over Richmond-Burton at the Marian Central Thanksgiving Tournament. Koscielniak went 1 of 2 at the line to go along with her eight baskets.

Hannah Koenig scored 13 points to lead the Rockets in the loss.

Richmond-Burton 51, Wauconda 47: At Woodstock, three players scored in double digits for the Rockets in the win at the Marian Central Thanksgiving Tournament. Abby Straight had a team-high 13 points while Sara Swanson and Hannah Koenig scored 11 and 10, respectively.

Marian Central 54, Wauconda 40: At Woodstock, The Hurricanes scored 23 points in the third quarter to break open the game. Sarah Benigni scored a game-high 17 points in the win for Marian while Brie Baumert added nine points.

Hurricanes guard Rachel Melchionna made the only 3-point shot of the game. She finished with three points.

Fremd 56, Cary-Grove 38: At Lake Zurich, the Katie Barker scored a team-high eight points for the Trojans. Teammates Karisa Wilczynski, Abby Jakubicek and Chrissy Sopchyk each added six points for C-G in the loss at the Lake Zurich Tournament 

Rolling Meadows 91, Johnsburg 31: At Lake Zurich, Kayla Toussaint led the way for the Skyhawks with eight points while Anna Fox scored five in the loss at the Lake Zurich Tournament.

Vernon Hills 57, Woodstock North 33: At Vernon Hills, Haley Ahr scored a team-high 11 points for the Thunder in the loss at the Vernon Hills Cougar Classic. Samantha Abbate and Rhetta Bates each added six points for North.

Belivdere North 67, Marengo 35: At Burlington, the Indians were led by junior guard Rachel Tautges  who scored 14 points. Tautges had a 3-pointer and went 3 of 4 from the line in the loss at the Burlington Central Tournament.

Hampshire 52, Willows Academy 37: At Elgin, Hampshire freshman Peyton DeChant scored a team-high 16 points while teammate Emma Benoit also scored in double-digits with 12 in the loss at the Elgin Academy Tournament.

BOYS BOWLING

Rockford Guilford Tournament: At Don Carter Lanes in Rockford, Jake Barton and Kyle Alt each bowled a 700 series for Marengo. Barton led the way with a 763 while Alt added a 761 to help the Indians to an 18th place finish at the 26-team tournament.

Dustin Termini bowled a team-high 247 which was 15th best at the tournament.
