Marian Central will join the East Suburban Catholic Conference for all sports for the 2014-15 school year.

Marian superintendent Tom Landers, principal Charles Rakers and athletic director Drew Potthoff made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.

Marian had planned to enter the Chicago Catholic League for football and boys soccer in 2014-15, while remaining with Suburban Christian Conference teams Montini, St. Francis, Aurora Christian, Marmion (boys only) and Rosary (girls only) for other sports.

Landers and Potthoff felt the ESCC gives Marian a more permanent home, as well as a place for all boys and girls sports. The ESCC will have 10 schools for boys sports and 11 for girls.

Marian officials met with their coaches after school on Tuesday. ESCC officials called to confirm Marian's invitation had been accepted.

"I am excited about hearing confirmation of our admission as a member of the East Suburban Catholic Conference," Potthoff said. "To have a permanent home for all of our sports and activities in one of the most prestigious conferences in Illinois is great news for the entire Marian Central Catholic community."
