The Hampshire boys soccer team advanced to the Class 2A Belvidere Regional final after a 3-0 victory over Belvidere North on Wednesday.
The Whip-Purs took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Jose Hernandez’s first goal of the game. Hernandez would later add the team’s third goal to put the game out of reach.
Paul Novacovici scored a goal and had an assist for Hampshire, and Jose Cruz added an assist.
The third-seeded Whip-Purs advanced to Friday’s regional final, where they will play fourth-seeded Belvidere, which upset top-seeded Harvard, 1-0. The loss for Harvard (14-6-2) ended a season in which it finished second in the Big Northern Conference East Division.
Richmond-Burton 2, Marengo 0: At Richmond, the Rockets (22-13 overall, 11-1 BNC East) clinched a share of the regular season division title with a 25-17, 25-12 win over the Indians. R-B can claim the title outright if Burlington Central loses to North Boone on Thursday. Ali Frantti led the way for R-B, recording 17 kills, seven digs and three aces. Kelsey Burlini had 22 assists and nine digs, and Jenna Mazur added 11 digs in the win.
IC Catholic 2, Marian Central 0: At Elmhurst, the Hurricanes (16-14, 6-6) lost in Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division play, 25-19, 25-22. Marian was led by Frankie Taylor with 11 kills and Hannah Davis with six kills and two blocks.
Jacobs co-op 103, Huntley 67: At Algonquin, Jacobs, which co-ops with Hampshire, won the FVC dual. Alexa Agoranos won every event she participated in, including the 400-meter freestyle relay, 400 free and 200 free for Jacobs. Nicole Sanchez won the 50 freestyle (28.79 seconds) and the 100 free (1:02.87) in the win.
Huntley’s Hailey Hill won the 100 backstroke (1:10.56), and Veronica Burgos won the 200 individual medley (2:41.23).
