Synon sets PR wrestling wins mark

HIGHLAND PARK – Zach Synon became Prairie Ridge’s career wrestling wins leader Saturday with his 125th victory, and the Wolves went 3-0 at the Highland Park Quadrangular.

Prairie Ridge defeated Oak Lawn, 36-33, Highland Park, 39-34, and Lakes, 30-24, as Synon (126 pounds) recorded two pins and received a forfeit.

Eric English (120) had three pins for Prairie Ridge, Mike Lung (182) had two pins and a forfeit win, and Matt Wilcox (152) won three decisions.

Batavia Tournament: Wade Lardy came away with the title at 138 pounds to help McHenry place fourth (146.5) at the 16-team tournament. Lardy defeated Nick Bonomo of Downers Grove North, 5-2, in the finals to cap an impressive run through the bracket.

“He was in control the whole time,” McHenry coach Will Gaddy said. “He wrestled real well in probably the toughest weight class in the tourney.”

Harvard Quad: At Harvard, the Hornets went 3-0 on the day, beating Johnsburg, 63-13, Winnebago, 69-9, and Stillman Valley, 42-21.

Dan Stott (170) won by pin and two decisions for Harvard, Joey Skroko (132) also had a pin and two decisions, Tyler Kramer (145) recorded two pins and a forfeit, and Cody Melson (195) won two decisions and received a forfeit.

Andrew Yoder (113) won by pin for Johnsburg against Harvard, and Nick Lewis (120) earned a major decision.

Sandburg Quad: At Orland Park, Clay Lutzow (138) and Gage Harrah (195/220) each won three matches as Crystal Lake Central went 1-2 at the tough quadrangular. The Tigers (10-8) beat Hononegah, 30-28, but lost to host Sandburg, 67-9, and Sycamore, 35-23.

Warren Duals: At Gurnee, Huntley went 2-1, defeating Rolling Meadows, 37-30, and Glenbrook North, 61-18, but falling to Warren, 56-15.

Zach Stenger (106) went 3-0 for the Red Raiders with a pin and a major decision, and Jacob O’Neal (120), Brandon Meyer (126), J.J. Martinez (132), John Walker (138), and Austin Scofield (152/160) each won two matches for Huntley.

Grayslake North 34, Cary-Grove 34 (Grayslake North wins on criteria): At Palatine, Mike Underwood (132) and Matt Fina (138) recorded back-to-back pins for the Trojans, as Garrett Glueck (145), Matt Hughes (152), Andy Stenard (160) and Pat O’Malley (170) all won by decision.

Round Lake Quad: Richmond-Burton went 3-0, defeating Crystal Lake South, 40-36, Zion-Benton, 29-27, and Fremd, 45-18.

Nick Zelinsky (195) and Jack Dechow (182) each recorded three pins for the Rockets, with Grant Sutton (106), Cameron Kennedy (120), Garrett Sutton (138) and Brett O’Kane (160) also winning all three matches.

Casey Callahan (113) and Tom Gerszewski (152) won by pin for South against R-B.

Kaneland Tournament: At Maple Park, Marian Central finished in sixth place in the 10-team tournament with 104.5 points.

The Hurricanes were led by second-place finishes from Austin Sabella (145) and Joe Klinger (152), with a third-place finish from Nick Remke (126).
