Synon (126 pounds) is ranked second in his weight class in the state by Illinoismatmen.com and won the same title at last year’s tournament. Senior Eric English (120) had three pins and finished fifth. Sophomore Charley Popp (152) took third with two pins, and senior Jon Ferbrache (160) pinned one opponent and also finished third in his weight class for the Wolves, who finished fifth as a team. Glenbard East Quadrangular: At Lombard, Richmond-Burton lost all three of its duals, to host Glenbard East, 48-24, Oswego East, 44-27 and Waubonsie Valley, 33-23. R-B’s Cameron Kennedy (120 pounds), Mike Hrdlicka (126), Garrett Sutton (138) and Jake Pauly (285) each went 3-0. Sutton won all three matches by pin, and Pauly won by pin twice. Wauconda Quadrangular: Huntley dominated the action against its three opponents, beating Johnsburg, 45-23, St. Edward, 78-6, and Rockford Jefferson, 63-12. John Walker (138) had two pins and Josh Symbal (195) had one, and each went 3-0 on the day for Huntley. Johnsburg’s Josh Jewell (145) won by technical fall against Jefferson’s Trevor Symbal. Dick Mudge Invitational: At Mount Prospect, Gage Harrah (195 pounds) set a tournament record after he pinned his three opponents in less than 57 seconds total en route to his first-place finish for Crystal Lake Central. Clay Lutzow (138) went 3-0 to finish first in his weight class, and Jason Fugiel (152) had one pin and won his class to lead the Tigers to a third-place finish in the 14-team tournament. McHenry finished fifth behind second-place finishes from Britches Sikula (106), Mike Sikula (113), Brad Ostdick (120) and Wade Lardy (138).
Rolling Meadows Invitational: At Rolling Meadows, Alex Elston (22.47 seconds) and Ryan Quinlan (22.63) finished 1-2 in the 50-yard freestyle, and the D-300 co-op took first place in the 200 medley relay (1:42.11) to propel the team to a fifth-place finish in the 12-team meet. • Chris Burrows and Lester Johnson contributed to this report. |
