
Hampshire girls roll to tourney titleMACHENSEY PARK – Hampshire’s girls basketball team continued its dominance in the Harlem Holiday Tournament by taking the title with a convincing 66-20 victory against Sycamore in the championship game. The Whip-Purs (13-0) ran out to a 28-4 halftime lead and cruised to the victory. Leading the way for Hampshire was Jessica VanDorin with 21 points, on seven three-point shots. Christina Heine, Alex Dumoulin and Cassie Dumoulin earned all-tournament honors. Alex Dumoulin was named tournament MVP. Mundelein Tournament: Cary-Grove started the tournament with a 61-29 win against Belvidere. The Trojans (12-0) were led by Claire Jakubicek’s 14 points and Liz Bart’s 12 points. C-G junior Meg Straumann suffered an apparently serious knee injury. Wheaton North Tournament: Maria Tamburrino led all scorers with 17 points, and Hailey Cnota added 15 to help Jacobs defeat Glenbard South, 46-41, in the opening round of the tournament. The Golden Eagles (9-2) advanced to the championship quarterfinals and will play Elk Grove on Monday. Pecatonica Tournament: Alden-Hebron dropped its two games Saturday, 53-31 to Dakota and 54-31 to Durand. Leading the Giants (4-9) were Amanda Appner with 16 points in the two games and Hayli Lagerhausen with 14. BOYS BASKETBALL DeKalb Tournament: Tyler Brunschon scored 19 points, and Dylan Neukrich added 13, but Huntley (7-2) lost its opening-round game, 59-54, to Rockford East. Sam Schweder led Woodstock North (0-7)with eight points in a 75-31 loss to DeKalb. WRESTLING McHenry Quadangular: McHenry went 3-0 on Saturday with wins against Alden-Hebron, 74-3, Hoffman Estates, 65-9, and Lake Zurich, 43-25. Leading the Warriors (6-4) were Victor Nellessen (160 pounds), who went 3-0, and Nick Collins (125) who also went 3-0 with two pins. Alden-Hebron was led by Jeremy Gricar and Justin Gricar. Each earned wins for the Giants (1-7), who went 0-3. Rex Whitlatch Invitational: At Hinsdale, Crystal Lake Central placed second with 205 points in the meet hosted by Hinsdale Central. Winning titles for the Tigers were Trevor Jauch (125 pounds), Taylor Servant (145), Austin Marsden (189). Sandburg won with 254.5 points. Rus Erb Tournament: At Glenview, Richard Kerstin finished in third-place at 189 pounds and led Cary-Grove (64.5) to an 11th-place finish in the tournament hosted by Glenbrook South. Sycamore (180.5) finished in first. Ralph W. Krupke Classic: At Roselle, Aaron Ryan led Jacobs with a second-place finish at 112 pounds and the Golden Eagles took 15th in the 16-team event hosted by Lake Park. Schaumburg won the meet with 213.5 points. BOYS SWIMMING Rockford East Relays: McHenry won five events in the all-relay meet, including the 2x50-yard freestyle team of Reilly Shanahan and Kyle Braun as they set a meet record of 45.17 seconds and led the Warriors to the team title with 139 points. Woodstock (103) placed third. BOYS HOCKEY Huntey/Lake Zurich 4, Guerin Prep 1: At Crystal Lake, Brian Holappa scored a goal and assisted on another for Huntley. • Mike Kolton contributed to this report.
