
Dixon nails game-winner for SkyhawksNILES – After a disappointing start to the girls basketball season, Johnsburg and Melissa Dixon bounced back in a big way Saturday. Dixon led all scorers with 26 points, including five three-pointers and the game-winning shot, in the Skyhawks’ 47-45 win against Proviso East. Danielle Slivka added eight points for Johnsburg (1-1) as coach Mike Toussaint earned his 200th career victory. Johnsburg opened its season with an 88-37 loss to Fenwick on Friday. Harvard Pre-Turkey Tournament: Crystal Lake Central played solid defense to defeat Genoa-Kingston, 25-17, and Round Lake, Harvard lost to Rockford East, 40-24, and Genoa-Kingston, 57-22. Rachel Thompson scored 11 points in Saturday’s two games to lead Harvard (0-4). Dundee-Crown Tournament: At Carpentersville, Alyssa Haayer scored 19 points to lead McHenry past South Elgin, 64-60, in overtime. Haayer went 11 for 13 from the free-throw line for the Warriors (1-1). Ali Sanders scored 18 points to pace Dundee-Crown in its 62-41 loss to Hononegah. Megan Fasanella added nine point for the Chargers Maria Tamburrino scored 18 points to lead Jacobs in its 41-39 win against Fremd. The Golden Eagles (4-0) are 3-0 in the tournament. Burlington Central Tournament: Woodstock lost to Lisle, 44-39 in overtime, and Burlington Central, 59-51. Marengo split its two games, defeating Sycamore, 51-41, and losing to Auburn, 80-47. DeKalb Turkey Toss-up: Alex Dumoulin scored 20 points and Chrissy Heine added 13 as Hampshire trounced Yorkville, 56-27. Jessie VanDorin made three three-pointers, and Dumoulin had a double-double by halftime for the Whip-Purs (2-0). Cassie Dumoulin added eight points for Hampshire. Vernon Hills Thanksgiving Tournament: Ashley Albertz led all scorers with 14 points to lead Woodstock North to a 40-24 win against Maine East. Emma Everly added seven points for the Thunder (2-1). Waubonsie Valley Tournament: At Aurora, Carly Goede scored 15 points and Kadie Lowery added 11 as Huntley defeated Naperville North, 58-52. Rachel Chapuis added 10 points for the Red Raiders.
