
PR captures FVC girls tennis title for 6th year in rowCRYSTAL LAKE – Prairie Ridge won three out of the four doubles titles on the final day of the Fox Valley Conference girls tennis tournament Monday to win the team championship for the sixth consecutive year. Allison Murphy and Carolyn Huerth continued their dominance at No. 1 doubles for the Wolves, defeating Crystal Lake South’s Abbey Kolarczyk and Stephanie Brunetti, 6-0, 6-4, in the championship match. Prairie Ridge coach Jessica Fetzner said her top doubles team has put a lot of effort into their net play, ball placement and overall communication on the court to better their game. “They have really worked on their doubles game,” Fetzner said. “It really shows.” Also winning doubles titles for the Wolves were Carrie Keahl and Haley Ljunggren at No. 2 and Emily Bruksch and Jackie Sievers at No. 3. Crystal Lake South finished second with 156 points, 10 behind Prairie Ridge. Rachel Boorom won the Gators’ only title, at No. 3 singles. Nelle Youel won at No. 1 singles to lead Crystal Lake Central to a third-place finish with 140 points. Also winning for the Tigers were Jenna Wallace at No. 2 singles, and Jordan Cane and Morgan White at No. 4 doubles. Rounding out the top half of the team competition were Johnsburg (129) in fourth, Cary-Grove (122) in fifth and Jacobs (107) in sixth. BOYS SOCCER McHenry 2, Jacobs 1 (2OT): At McHenry, Holden Senn-Raemont’s goal with 7:12 remaining in the second overtime gave McHenry an FVC Valley Division victory against Jacobs. Taylor Pignataro’s penalty-kick goal in the second half gave Jacobs (5-11-3 overall, 4-5 FVC Valley) a 1-0 lead before Rey Esquivel scored off Mike Fitzgerald’s assist to tie the score for McHenry (7-10-3, 3-6). Josh McNaughton assisted on Senn-Raemont’s winning goal.
