CLS tops Huntley in volleyball

CRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake South’s girls volleyball team outlasted Huntley, 25-21, 25-20, in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division play Tuesday to remain undefeated in the division.

Taylor Granell recorded six kills and nine digs for the Gators (11-0 overall, 3-0 FVC Valley), Chelsea Sirovatka had 13 assists, and Caitlin Schumaker had seven kills.

The Red Raiders (13-5, 1-2) were led by Ashley Smith’s nine kills and Amanda Carroll’s 16 assists.

Cary-Grove 2, McHenry 0: At Cary, Abbey Heredia led the way with 25 assists in a 25-9, 25-16, FVC Valley win for the Trojans (14-1, 3-0). McHenry (5-4, 1-2) was led by Brooke Nelson’s 10 digs.

Jacobs 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles’ Quinn Luehring had 15 assists as Jacobs (4-12, 1-2) beat D-C, 25-16, 25-16, in FVC Valley play. The Chargers fell to 4-8, 0-3 in the FVC Valley.

Prairie Ridge 2, Grayslake Central 0: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves’ Taylor Brauneis had eight kills, and Taylor Humm added 10 assists in a 25-20, 25-9, FVC Fox Division win for Prairie Ridge (12-5, 4-0) against Grayslake Central.

CL Central 2, Johnsburg 0: At Johnsburg, Crystal Lake Central defeated the Skyhawks, 25-13, 25-20, in FVC Fox play. Julie Jeziorowski had 19 digs for the Tigers (14-3, 3-1) and Tracy Friel added 22 assists. Johnsburg (7-5, 3-1) had 12 kills, 36 digs and 10 assists.

Woodstock 2, Woodstock North 0: At Woodstock, Christie Jacobson had 15 assists to lead the Blue Streaks (7-9, 3-2) in their 25-8, 25-11, FVC Fox win against the Thunder (1-14, 0-4) .

Harvard 2, Marengo 0: At Harvard, the Hornets beat Marengo, 25-16, 25-22, in Big Northern Conference East Division play. Katarina Rolta led Harvard (7-4, 1-1) with 18 assists. Chloe Fiedler led Marengo
(5-12, 0-2) with 10 kills and eight digs.

Mooseheart 2, Alden-Hebron 1: At Hebron, Alden-Hebron’s Carissa Stauss and Morgan Lohse each had seven assists in a 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, Northeastern Athletic Conference loss for the Giants (3-8, 3-1).

Hampshire 2, Richmond-Burton 1: At Hampshire, Kara Wehrs’s
13 kills led Hampshire in its 25-11,
20-25, 25-17, BNC East win against R-B (9-7, 0-1). Amy Wehrs added
12 kills for Hampshire (12-2, 2-0).

TENNIS

CL Central 5, Huntley 2: At Huntley, the Tigers (7-5, 6-2) swept the singles matches, including Jenna Wallace’s win at No. 2 singles, in their FVC win. Lydia Jiang and Jordan Anderson won at No. 1 doubles for Huntley (6-9, 1-8).

CL South 6, Jacobs 1: At Crystal Lake, the Gators (10-0, 9-0) were led by Marisa Thome’s win at No. 1 singles as they defeated the Golden Eagles in FVC action. Lauren Steinkamp and Marcilyn Rowan won at No. 2 doubles for Jacobs.

Johnsburg 5, McHenry 2: At McHenry, the Skyhawks’ Heather Matejka won at No.1 singles, and Nicole and Alexa Stroner won at No. 1 doubles in an FVC win for Johnsburg (9-1, 7-1). For McHenry (9-6, 5-4), senior Lauren Vannoy won at No. 2 singles.

Grayslake North 5, Dundee-Crown 2: At Grayslake, Alie Baliester and Kathleen Fahy won at No. 1 doubles for the Chargers in their loss.

Prairie Ridge 7, Woodstock North 0: At Crystal Lake, Hannah Gummerson won at No. 1 singles in an FVC win for the Wolves (10-2, 10-0).

CROSS COUNTRY

Fox Valley Mega Meet: At Emricson Park in Woodstock, Kayla Beattie ran a time of 19:15.69 to earn first place and lead Woodstock (31) to the team title. Elise Beattie finished second for the Blue Streaks, on her sister’s heels with a time of 19:15.88. Dundee-Crown (40) took second place and was led by Claire Himmel with a time of 20:46. Woodstock North (109) placed fourth behind Mary Kelly’s time of 21:01, and McHenry (120) finished fifth, led by Quin Rogers’ time of 21:16.

Johnsburg Meet: At McHenry Township Park, Crystal Lake South (61) finished first out of six FVC teams, as Marianne Collard led all racers with a time of 19:32. Cary-Grove’s Kathryn O’Connor helped the Trojans (84) take second place with a 12th-place finish with a time of 21:11. Haley Loprieno finished third overall with a time of 19:45 and helped Huntley (89) secure third place. Prairie Ridge (91) was fourth, led by Amanda Marwitz’s fourth-place finish of 20:37.

GOLF

CL Central 182, Jacobs 240: At Turnberry in Lakewood, Sarah Mieth shot a 7-over-par 43 to earn medalist honors and help the Tigers (8-1, 4-0) defeat Jacobs in FVC play. Maria Tamburrino shot a 57 to lead the Golden Eagles.

Prairie Ridge 179, Harvard 231: At Beaver Creek in Capron, Allison Holly shot a 3-over 38 to lead the Wolves to the non-conference win. Robin Manarik, Katelyn Horgan and Jessica Stengel each carded 47 for Prairie Ridge (2-3). Michaela Binz shot a 50 for the Hornets (0-6).

SWIMMING

St. Viator 55, CL Central 35: At Arlington Heights, Claire Walker won the 50-yard freestyle (27.03 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (1:04) for the Tigers in their non-conference loss.
