
Undefeated Nelsen, C-G blank CL SouthCARY– Cary-Grove senior Matt Nelsen continued his undefeated season with a four-hit shutout for in the Trojans’ 4-0 win against Crystal Lake South in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division play. “He pitched very well against a good offense from South and had another great day for us,” C-G coach Don Sutherland said. The Trojans (17-6-1 overall, 3-1 FVC Valley) scored three runs in the third inning, as Chris Waylock and Kegan Mascarella both drove in runs. “The third inning was just the way you draw it up offensively, and we executed very well,” Sutherland said. The Gators (13-9, 1-3) had only one extra-base hit against Nelsen McHenry 9, Dundee-Crown 4: At Carpentersville, Ben Finfrock went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, and Cody Richter was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for the Warriors (16-6, 3-1) in an FVC Valley win against the Chargers. Colin Hansen (5-3) earned the win, striking out six, scattering five hits and not allowing an earned run in four innings. Willy Larsen went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases for D-C (4-15, 1-3). Jacobs 15, Woodstock 2 (5 inn.): At Woodstock, the Golden Eagles (10-14, 2-2) scored seven runs in their first at-bat in a five-inning FVC Valley win against the Blue Streaks (11-11, 2-3). Brandon Richman led Jacobs, going 2-for-4 and driving in four runs. Prairie Ridge 12, Grayslake North (5 inn.): At Grayslake, Nolan Jacoby (3-for-4, two doubles two RBIs) and Jesse Shukas (2-for-3, two runs, RBI) led the Wolves (18-5, 4-0) in their FVC Fox win against the Knights (5-15, 1-3). Joe Zwierzynski (7-2) struck out five over four innings to earn the win. Johnsburg 2, Grayslake Central 1: At Grayslake, Jerad Grundy (2-4) struck out six, walked none and allowed two hits as he earned the win for Johnsburg (12-9, 1-3) in FVC Fox play. Aaron Snyder struck out seven and gave up four hits to take the loss for the Rams (11-9, 1-3). Hampshire 2, Richmond-Burton 1: At Hampshire, junior Ryan Burke (3-1) pitched six innings and allowed one run as the Whip-Purs (13-9, 4-2) beat the Rockets (5-14, 3-3) in Big Northern Conference East Division play. Marian Central 5, St. Francis 1: At Woodstock. David Luczak (5-0) pitched a complete game and limited the Spartans to two hits to earn the Suburban Catholic Conference win for the Hurricanes (13-6, 8-2). Alden-Hebron 13, Christian Liberty 1 (5 inn.): At Arlington Heights, the Giants (13-3, 8-0) were led by Zak Engelbrecht (2-for-2, two runs, RBI) and Dilan Erath (3-for-4, run, two RBIs) in their Indian Trails Conference win. A-H scored 10 runs in the first inning. Cody Eskridge pitched a complete game to earn the win.
CL Central Triangular: At Crystal Lake, Zach Siegmeier (15 feet) won the pole vault to lead Crystal Lake Central (81 points) to a victory against Dundee-Crown (61) and Crystal Lake South (41). D-C was led by Aaron Reams’ first place finishes in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.5 seconds) and triple jump (43-11). Steve Rodgers led South with a first-place finish in the 800 (2:01). McHenry Triangular: McHenry won the Fox Valley Conference triangular by a margin of 63 points. The Warriors scored 104 points and were trailed by Cary-Grove (41) and Johnsburg (3-4). McHenry junior Jeff Sabatka won the 1,600 (4:32), and Alex Britt won the triple jump (41-11) and long jump (21-2). C-G was led by Phil Fairleigh’s victories in the 400 (54.6 seconds) and the 800 (2:02.2). Grayslake North Triangular: Grayslake Central won the FVC triangular with 89 points, Huntley took second with 75 and Grayslake North was third with 10. Marcus Popenfoose won the discus with a throw of 189-9 for Huntley. SFlbTENNIS Huntley 3, Marengo 2: At Marengo, Mike Habrat and McKenz Roeser won at No. 2 doubles to lead the Red Raiders (4-8) in their non-conference win against the Indians (0-14). Chris Wilwers won at No. 1 singles for Marengo. Johnsburg 5, Grant 0: At Johnsburg, Dan Martin won his No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-0, for the Skyhawks (9-3) in a non-conference win.
