South brings pressure in soccer win

CRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake South’s girls soccer team found all the right offensive combinations Tuesday against McHenry in a 4-0 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win against the Warriors.

McHenry goalkeeper Jill Pohlman came up with two saves early in the first half, but South continued to pressure until Karley Mecko pushed through the Gators’ first goal with 26 minutes left in the first half.

Kelsey Taldone scored the Gators’ second goal 18 minutes before halftime, and Carly Juliano came out of the gate in the second half to put the Gators ahead, 3-0.

Ashley Ross finished South’s offensive attack with the Gators’ fourth goal six minutes into the second half.

“We had a few mental lapses in the back, and South found a way to capitalize each time,” McHenry coach Jim Nelson said. “But we did battle.”

Pohlman finished with eight saves for the Warriors (7-6 overall, 1-4 FVC Fox). Casey Faure made two saves for South (8-8, 5-1).
